Paul has worked previously as a curator in the Middle East Department of the British Museum and the Ancient Near Eastern Art Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He is a specialist in the art and archaeology of ancient Mesopotamia with interests in the late fourth millennium BC, Neo-Assyrian sculpture, and modern threats to cultural heritage.
